Request to publish

When submitting devices for publication, check that the below requirements have been met:

In the Publish menu of your Developer Workspace project, click Publish Request. Depending on your integration type, you can select one or both publication methods:

SmartThings-certified device

Devices published via Works with SmartThings are SmartThings-certified.

Certification Review

Submit a cloud-connected device

  • Click START A NEW REQUEST and select the Works with SmartThings (WWST) option.
  • Fill in the Device Info.
    • Select the Brand to associate with this device. Learn more about brands.
    • Enter a Device Display Name to show in the SmartThings app.
    • Select the Device Profile that this device will use.
  • Click the Countries tab.
    • Select countries, if any, to exclude from your device listing.
    • Click CREATE REQUEST.
  • On the Request Details page, click the link to download the self-assessment checklist from Developer Workspace.
  • Complete and upload the checklist.
  • Click COMPLETE SELF-TESTING.
  • Add Supported Language(s).
  • Review and fill in additional Device Info.
    • Enter the alphanumeric Model Number(s).
    • Enter a Model Name to be shown with the Device Display Name in the SmartThings app.
    • Device Category determines the device's icon and default UI layout in the SmartThings app.
    • Select a Device Release Date. This is the date of market launch, searchable by users.
    • Upload a Product Image (324x182 pixels).
    • Check your Connector Display Name.
  • Fill in the Additional Info. This information will help the Certification Expert configure the device environment. Clear and comprehensive details will expedite the certification process.
    • Upload a Device Manual. This should be written in English and include detailed instructions for device setup and testing.
    • Accessory Requirements assist the Certification Expert in configuring the device environment. If the configuration requires accessories that are not on the market, please include these accessories in your shipment, e.g., "WiFi Router supporting 5Ghz, Magnetic tape, E26 socket mount."
    • Power Source notifies us if you need a special power source. If you have an external power supply, enclose it in your shipment, e.g., "Power Supply / Input 100-240V AC *5A, 50-60Hz / Output 19V DC 4.74A."
    • Other Comments let us know of any other features, or any precautions, we should take while configuring and testing your device. Accurate, relevant, and detailed information helps to expedite certification. For example: "Don't use on wet ground. Press power button for 5 seconds to reset the device."
    • Read and agree to the Terms and Conditions. We maintain strict confidentiality on the information pertaining to your device, the problems and solutions encountered during the certification process, and the patents and designs. This is effective upon acceptance of the terms and conditions.
  • Click SUBMIT REQUEST FOR REVIEW.

When submitted, your certification request will have Request in review status. Once it passes the review stage, it will go into Waiting for device status. You can then proceed with shipping.

The second review starts when your device arrives at the Certification Center. Check for status updates in Developer Workspace. Approval is provided in 30 business days.

Your device will automatically be released through the SmartThings app on the release date you select in Developer Workspace.

SmartThings-compatible device

Devices published this way are SmartThings-compatible.

Register a cloud-connected device

  • Click START A NEW REQUEST and select the SmartThings-compatible option.
  • Select an approved Brand from the dropdown list. Learn more about brands.
  • Click CREATE REQUEST.
  • On the Request Details page, click the link to view the self-test guidelines.
  • Check the box to verify that your Connector meets these guidelines.
  • Click COMPLETE SELF-TESTING.
  • Enter the alphanumeric Model Number(s).
  • Fill in Additional Info.
    • Enter your official Support Website Address.
    • Enter your official Support Email Address.
    • Enter the Planned Publish Date (based on UTC), which is the date of the market launch of the device.
    • Read and agree to the Terms and Conditions. We maintain strict confidentiality on the information pertaining to your device, the problems and solutions encountered during the certification process, and the patents and designs. This is effective upon acceptance of the terms and conditions.
  • Click SUBMIT REQUEST FOR REVIEW.

Approval for SmartThings-compatible devices is provided in 2 business days. Your device will automatically be released through the SmartThings app on the release date you select in Developer Workspace.

Register a hub-connected device

Two options are available in the Publish menu for hub-connected devices.

  • SmartThings-compatible is used to publish a new Device Handler and associated products, or to update a Device Handler.
  • Product update is used to publish pending updates to a product.

SmartThings-compatible

In the SmartThings-compatible tab, click START A NEW REQUEST.

Publish Device Handler

  • Several publish options are available on the next screen.
    • To publish a new Device Handler and any new products associated with it, add each Product to the request.
      • Products that can be selected will have the status Never Published or Published with Pending Updates. A product's status can be viewed on the Product Info page.
    • To submit changes you have made to a Device Handler (without selecting a product), you can leave the Product area blank. This applies in the following cases:
      • You have changed the Device Handler code without adding a new fingerprint.
      • You have removed the fingerprint of a product from a Device Handler and added it to another Device Handler. In this case, you must submit both Device Handlers.
  • Fill in the Additional Info for your request.
    • Enter your official Support Website Address.
    • Enter your official Support Email Address.
    • Enter the Planned Publish Date (based on UTC), which is the date of the market launch of the device.
    • Select the Time Zone of your account.
    • Read and agree to the Terms and Conditions. We maintain strict confidentiality on the information pertaining to your device, the problems and solutions encountered during the certification process, and the patents and designs. This is effective upon acceptance of the terms and conditions.
    • Enter the Device Location that you associated with your devices in the SmartThings app. The SmartThings team uses this to test your device.
  • Click SUBMIT.

Approval for SmartThings-compatible hub-connected devices is provided in 2 business weeks.

Product update

If you have updated a product's details, you can publish these updates without submitting a Device Handler.

In the Product Updates tab, click START A NEW REQUEST.

Publish product with pending updates

  • Click ADD PRODUCTS TO REQUEST to select the products you have updated.
  • Fill in the Additional Info for your request.
    • Enter your official Support Website Address.
    • Enter your official Support Email Address.
    • Enter the Planned Publish Date (based on UTC), which is the date of the market launch of the device.
    • Select the Time Zone of your account.
    • Read and agree to the Terms and Conditions. We maintain strict confidentiality on the information pertaining to your device, the problems and solutions encountered during the certification process, and the patents and designs. This is effective upon acceptance of the terms and conditions.
    • Enter the Device Location that you associated with your devices in the SmartThings app. The SmartThings team uses this to test your device.
  • Click SUBMIT.
